See lion dancers, musicians and martial artists direct from China in a dazzling performance for the Moon Festival at the Organ Pavilion on September 27th in San Diego's Balboa Park. This free program, part of the Balboa Park Centennial, starts at 7:00 PM and ends with a sensational show of fireworks, music and (weather permitting) a full moon rising!
The celebration is presented by the House of China and the Confucius Institute at San Diego State University, organizations devoted to sharing Chinese culture and promoting diversity.
Performers include the Southern Sea and Three Treasures lion dancers, traditional Chinese musicians and ensembles from the prestigious Xiamen University in China. The finale includes fireworks and singing.
A time for families to gather and give thanks, the Moon Festival, a fall harvest festival, is one of the most important celebrations among the Chinese people worldwide. It is also known as the Mooncake Festival thanks to the tasty tradition of eating mooncakes on this important day.
