Baja California hosts a wide variety of exciting outdoor activities. From off-roading and sportfishing to zip-lining and horseback riding there’s no shortage of thrilling experiences for anyone looking to enjoy a little fun in the sun.
Baja is an underwater paradise for those wishing to explore the depths of the sea. Famous biologist Jacques Cousteau referred to the waters off the coast of Baja, as the “world's aquarium" because of the number of marine species that call the sea home. Divers can admire hammerheads, sea lions, stingrays, moray eels, and more up and down the peninsula. For a special treat, off the coast of Rosarito Beach, divers have the opportunity to explore the Uribe, a sunken ship. If diving down deep sounds a little daunting, Baja offers a number of snorkeling and boating opportunities where swimmers can float along the surface and observe the variety of fishes and corals.
In Ensenada, world-class sportfishing can be found as these waters offer some of the best fishing in the Pacific. The Ensenada sportfishing fleet operates year-round and offers a wide range of fishing trips, from multi-day and long-range to full- and half-day excursions. During the spring, summer and fall, sport fishermen can expect to catch yellowtail, White Sea bass, Calico bass, barracuda and bonito, while winter trips usually bring in sand bass, rock cod and more than 50 species of bottom fish.
Shifting back to land activities, off-roading on an ATV is another great way to fuel an adventurous spirit. Whether it be a coastal ride along the blue, Baja waters or an inland excursion through desert arroyos and winding trails to discover hidden waterfalls, great scenery and wildlife can be discovered along the way.
Zip-lining is another fun and exciting adventure for those not afraid of heights and looking for some heart-thumping fun. . Zip- line courses, hanging bridges, and canopy tours await at the Las Canadas Campground in Ensenada, along with waterparks, boating and more.
Golfers will appreciate the coastal play at Bajamar, where players can enjoy 27 holes set against the beautiful Pacific Ocean. Slightly south of Puerto Nuevo, All the Pretty Horses of Baja Company offers fun horseback riding opportunities to explore the hills and valleys that look out to panoramic ocean views.
Sight-seeing is another fun way to take in Baja’s beauty. A trip to La Bufadora, a natural (blow-hole situated on the southern end of Ensenada Bay, is a fun way to pass an afternoon. There’s shopping, food and drink along the way to the geyser that can shoot sea water upwards of 80 feet into the air at this natural rock formation.
