From March to May, the rolling fields of Giant Tecolote Ranunculus create a vibrant blanket of flowers that bring the Carlsbad hills to life. There’s a miniature rose garden, fragrant sweet pea maze, a garden featuring more than 50 All American Rose Selection winners and a spectacular display of red, white and blue flowers planted in the shape of a giant American flag. This annual event has become part of the city's local heritage and brings flowers lovers from near and far to witness this spectacle.
For the more than 60 years, the 50-acre hillside has been transformed into a sea of coordinated colorful blooms overlooking the Pacific Ocean. This annual event is San Diego's way of announcing the spring season has arrived in the most colorful way possible.
The Flower Fields of Carlsbad California also holds special events including Kid's Day, Bluegrass Day, arts and crafts fairs, and more. Self-guided group tours are just one way of learning more about the fields, or you can learn everything about the fields from an experienced guide during a guided walking tour or wagon ride. Tours are approximately 30-45 minutes long, and chairs are provided so you can relax and take in the breathtaking scenery. Tour information includes the history of the Flower Fields, planting and growing processes, flower descriptions, and much more. Be sure to call in advance to make reservations for any groups.
