Established in 2002 and held each year during the last week of January, the San Diego Black Film Festival has grown to become one of the largest black film festivals in the country.

We screen over 100 films each year: Comedy, Drama, Documentaries, Animation, GLBT, Horror, Religious, Foreign/African Diaspora, Shorts, Feature Films and music videos.

As the first and largest black film festival of the year, numerous other festival reps scout new films from us for their event. Simply put, each year the San Diego Black Film Festival will premiere a large percentage of the independent black films that will prove successful throughout the year at other film festivals.

The San Diego Watercolor Society proudly presents “Between the Lines”, juried by award-winning artist, Joan Merrick. The water-based media exhibition runs Dec 29, 2024 to Feb 1, 2025, at our Gallery in The ARTS DISTRICT Liberty Station. The Opening Reception is Friday, Jan 3, 5-8 pm with over 95 ready-to-hang original paintings plus refreshments and the fellowship of other art enthusiasts. Exhibition dates: February 8 - March 28. Friendship Park, Take Amistad on the Road features sculptures, photography, paintings, performance art, and participatory installations about the past, present, and future of Friendship Park.  Artists in the exhibition include Nanzi Muro, Maria Teresa Fernandez and natalia ventura.  Each of the three artists communicates a shared message of cross-border friendship (amistad) that is the essence of Friendship Park.
