Blue Whales: Return of the Giants takes you on a journey of a lifetime to explore the world of the magnificent blue whale, a species rebounding from the brink of extinction. Blue whales are the largest animals ever to have lived—bigger than any dinosaur—yet we know surprisingly little about them.

J2B2 is an all-star bluegrass supergroup featuring four legendary, award-winning musicians – John Jorgenson on acoustic guitar, mandolin and vocals; Herb Pedersen on banjo, acoustic guitar and vocals; Mark Fain on bass; and Patrick Sauber on acoustic guitar and vocals – delivering bluegrass like no one has ever heard it before. The band’s undeniable live shows have received stellar reviews and have the bluegrass world buzzing. The four combine forces to form a spot-on union of impeccable musicianship, incomparable songwriting, incredible harmony vocals (a fresh twist combining bluegrass with elements of West Coast folk rock) and seasoned showmanship. The Museum's sensory-friendly quiet hours are held every Sunday from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. This time is dedicated to creating a calmer, quieter museum experience. We remain open to the public during this time, and all are welcome to visit the Museum.

During this time, specific exhibit features in the main Museum building will be turned off to minimize audio and visual stimulation. Noise-blocking headphones are free for check-out at the main Admissions desk and the entrance to the Cannibals: Myth & Reality exhibition.

Exhibit features in the Cannibals: Myth & Reality exhibit will remain on, and all exhibits will be fully turned on at 11 a.m. Admission purchased during sensory-friendly quiet hours is the same as standard admission and applies to the entire day.

The Maritime Museum of San Diego is the only attraction to offer this popular day sail adventure experience aboard San Salvador, a replica of Juan Rodriguez Cabrillo’s ship that arrived at the port we now call San Diego on September 28, 1542. These 4-hour Sailing Adventures are for people who love history and sailing. Few 21st Century people have sailed aboard a 16th Century galleon. You can become one of them. No sailing experience is required. An invaluable addition to your experience is the onboard historian who will explain how the San Salvador was sailed, navigated and defended. 

In addition to learning about the exploration of the West Coast, guests can assist the sail crew, enhancing their back-in-time experience.
