Ocean Connectors was founded on the realization that many schoolchildren do not have equal access to explore their coastal environment. Our vision is to cultivate a future generation of passionate, globally-aware, and empowered coastal residents who take active steps to enjoy and protect ocean health. Our students take part in class presentations and outdoor field trips where they learn about migratory marine life and marine science.
Our Eco Tours connect the community to conservation through recreational activities in local biodiversity hotspots. From Birding and Biking to Wildlife Kayaking, we have various Eco Tours that all help fund our youth education programs.
One of the most unique aspects of Ocean Connectors is our binational identity, which has been a fundamental force guiding the development of our programs since the beginning. All oceans are connected, and Ocean Connectors believes that conservation and education must cross borders in order to protect the unique ecosystems and species that traverse our oceans.
Ocean Connectors students in the U.S. and Mexico participate in a knowledge exchange using artwork, letters, and videos to share information about migratory animals that travel across the Pacific Ocean. This cross-border, peer-to-peer bilingual dialogue promotes environmental stewardship and global awareness, helping today’s youth understand how marine ecosystems and cultures are interconnected across vast distances.
Proceeds from Eco Tour tickets go right back into our education programs and help connect youth in the U.S. and Mexico to conservation!
